Whole-home softening

Less hard-water buildup. Less working around it.

The white crust on fixtures and the film that keeps coming back may have a common cause: hardness.

Better Water? That's Easy.

What changes with softer water?

Less mineral buildup

Softening reduces the hardness minerals that form scale.

Less soap residue

Hard water reacts with soap; reducing hardness can reduce the film it leaves behind.

Fewer hardness-related spots

Softening can reduce mineral spotting, although it will not fix every cause of cloudy glassware.

The useful part of the science.

A conventional softener uses resin to remove calcium and magnesium, the main hardness minerals. Salt is used to regenerate that resin so it can keep working.

What a softener does not promise.

Softening is not a disinfectant, not a guarantee that water is safe, and not the same as treating every possible drinking-water concern.
